Leesville Road High School offers various Advanced Placement (AP) courses open to any student willing to embrace the AP challenge.  AP offers students a national curriculum, standardized exams, and the opportunity to earn college credit while they are still in high school.  As a consequence, AP can be overwhelming and confusing for students and their families.  The resources found here will help families navigate the exciting world of Advanced Placement.

What is AP and why should I enroll?

"AP can change your life. Through college-level AP courses, you enter a universe of knowledge that might otherwise remain unexplored in high school; through AP Exams, you have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities. With 37 courses and exams across 22 subject areas, AP offers something for everyone. The only requirements are a strong curiosity about the subject you plan to study and the willingness to work hard."  Leesville Road High School currently offers fifteen AP courses, providng many exciting possibilities for students and parents to consider.  If you have more question about AP, click here for an AP FAQ (frequently asked questions) from the College Board website.

Who may take AP courses?

Any student who plans to attend college should seriously consider taking at least one Advanced Placement course before graduating from high school.  "The College Board and the Advanced Placement Program encourage teachers, AP Coordinators, and school administrators to make equitable access a guiding principle for their AP programs. The College Board is committed to the principle that all students deserve an opportunity to participate in rigorous and academically challenging courses and programs. All students who are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should be given consideration for admission to AP courses. The Board encourages the elimination of barriers that restrict access to AP courses for students from ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the AP Program. Schools should make every effort to ensure that their AP classes reflect the diversity of their student population."  The previous quote, taken from the link above, provides the College Board's assessment of the role educators, counselors, and administrators should take in guiding students in their selection process.
